Saif bin Zayed attends UAE SWAT Challenge 2019

H.H. Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, attended today competitions of the fourth day of the UAE SWAT Challenge 2019, organised by Dubai Police until 14 February at Dubai SWAT Training Facility.

The challenge is designed to create cooperation between all SWAT Teams on a global level and for members to participate in fact-based scenarios; in an effort to create best practices in a friendly environment.

In attendance also were Lt General Dahi Khalfan Tamim, Deputy Chairman of Police and Public Security;Major General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, Major General Saif Al Shamsi, Commander-in-Chief of Sharjah Police, and a number of senior Police officers and heads of participating SWAT teams.

Colonel Obaid bin Yarouf, the Challenge’s General Coordinator, said 60 teams from 50 countries are competing in different scenarios such as rescuing hostages or injured officers, tower challenges and obstacle courses. The international teams will go head-to-head within five Challenge Categories that will test these global tactical and weaponry professionals for the purpose of encouraging exchange of techniques and promote the high level of tactical skills, mental focus and physical endurance possessed by SWAT Teams.

It offers a very special opportunity for the UAE to witness and understand the incredible level of skill possessed by these top-level policing professionals in the spirit of collaboration, exchange of ideas, mutual positive values, solidarity and respect.

A specialised jury including members from the New York Police Department and Dubai Police will choose winners. Cash prizes worth $170,000 will be given out during the event, including a challenge prize of $10,000 for the top three teams each day.

Organisers said the event is not only a series of challenges for elite global policing professionals but is designed to provide spectators with a fun and exciting experience with a series of onsite features for young and old alike.

At the SWAT Village, visitors will experience various exciting events other than the SWAT Challenge. They will have the opportunity to test themselves in the tactical Visitors’ SWAT challenge where they compete in their own SWAT style competition for a fun and challenging experience.
