Kuwait special forces placed the first and third during the third day of the UAE SWAT Challenge, during which 60 international teams from around the globe put their physical and mental skills to the test.
Held under the patronage of His Highness Lt General Sheikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, the participating teams in the UAE SWAT Challenge demonstrated their tactical skills, mental focus and physical ability as they competed in various emergency tasks, from February 10-14 at Al Ruwayyah area.
The five-day-challenge, which brought together top international teams, held under the supervision of His Excellency Major-General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police.
The Kuwaiti team dominated the first and third spots during the third day of the challenge, the officer rescue challenge.
The tactical teams competed in five categories for a cash prize of $170, 000, as they also interacted with each other, exchanged tactical skills and methods.
The Kuwait special forces topped the first place in 3:47:18 minutes, the American Osceola County team won the second place after finishing their task in 4:16:01 minutes and a prize of $3,000. Kuwait special forces came in the third place for finishing the required task in 4:27:12 minutes, winning a prize of $2,000.
Major General Abdullah Ali Al Ghaithi, Director of the General Department of Organisations Protective Security and Emergency, and several senior police officials attended the activities of the third day of the UAE SWAT Challenge.

A total of 49 special police units from 37 countries from around the world competed in the third day of the UAE SWAT Challenge. The third day challenge, officer rescue, tested elite teams’ skills in a real emergency scenario through rescuing an injured police officer in the shortest amount of time possible.
Each participating team in the officer rescue challenge consists of five members, including four fighters and one sniper. Elite police units used several equipment to achieve the task, especially that completing the mission involved
hitting 33 moving targets during live ammunition, sliding and overcoming harsh physical obstacles.
Police units were also affected with rain and high winds during the officer rescue challenge, taking team members by surprise. The weather conditions added a sense of excitement to the competition, especially that it started raining during the third day of the competition in the early morning hours.
Lieutenant Yasser Al Zarouni: Dubai Police always aim to be at the forefront
Lieutenant Yasser Al Zarouni, supervisor of the Dubai Police SWAT team, said the level of proficiency in the tactical skills, physical and mental abilities are quite similar among participating teams.
“The obstacles in the UAE SWAT Challenge requires mental focus, coordination among team members. Those characteristics alleviate completing the mission without getting any team member injured, during the shortest amount of time, and ensuring not to repeat previous mistakes.

Colonel Dr Ali Al Shawi, from the King Fahd Security College, praised the organisation and coordination efforts carried out by Dubai Police to facilitate the procedures for participating teams in the UAE SWAT Challenge.
